I was born in Detroit to a family with a long car tradition. Three previous generations had worked for Chrysler including my great-grandfather, grandfather and grandmother, father and mother and my uncles. My mother and father even met at the Chrysler world headquarters in 1998. I found a love of cars at a young age when by the time I was five I could name the make and model of any car on the road. My uncle helped me performed my first oil change on his a 1970 Superbird when I was 8. There was no doubt that the 4th generation of car enthusiasts had arrived!
At age 16 I purchased a 1993 Jeep Cherokee in Tennessee for $3,100. After taking the Jeep to AAA for a mechanical inspection, I received a $3,300 repair quote. The repairs included a radiator replacement, valve cover and timing cover gasket replacement to fix an oil leak, and a fuel pump replacement to name a few. I decided to purchased the parts and make the repairs myself. After the repairs I upgraded the interior including items like installing a Burberry headliner with material I ordered from the UK. Next I wanted to upgrade the exterior and decided to go with a retro woody look.
The first step on the exterior was paint so I borrowed equipment from a friend and painted the Jeep black. Next I had to find the rare moldings but they were not available from aftermarket resellers. Fortunately through a search of salvage yards across North Carolina and Georgia I was able to pull together a complete set. Along the way I found the wheels I was looking for. The final step was to the installation of the wood grain. Needless to say the final product far exceeded my expectations and the Jeep is still my daily driver to this day! Check out my other projects.
